A MURDER investigation has opened in France after an 86-year-old Isle of Wight woman was found dead in a car which was about to board a ferry in Calais.
Her son, 53, who was driving, has been admitted to a psychiatric hospital in the town. He is also believed to be from the Island.
It appears the car was ready to board the ferry back to the UK, when the woman was discovered dead.
The Times newspaper has reported that Pascal Marconville, the prosecutor in Boulogne-sur-Mer near Calais, said a murder inquiry had been started because police had discovered bruises on the woman’s body.
He said the mother and son, who have not been named, were from the Isle of Wight and had three properties in France.
The body of the woman was found on Friday.
