ISLE of Wight showbiz writer and broadcaster John Hannam has recently interviewed two of Britain's most highly celebrated actors — Dame Judi Dench and Sir Ian McKellen.

Dame Judi was performing at the Ashcroft Playhouse, Croydon, and Sir Ian was interviewed backstage at London's Harold Pinter Theatre, where he is appearing in his one-man show Ian McKellen On Stage.

John told the County Press: "Sir Ian was in brilliant form and so friendly. I spent an hour in his company.

"Both Dame Judi and Sir Ian proved real stars are a joy to be with. There were no egos to contend with.

"They were just two lovely people who were both so grateful for their very successful careers."

Who could possibly follow these two British treasures, for John's next interview?

Sir Ian came up with an suggestion — currently under wraps — but he told John to mention his name and say he personally said they must do it.

The last time John had such a remarkable double was back in 1999, when within a month, he'd interviewed Hollywood legend Charlton Heston, at a Piccadilly hotel, and Sir John Mills at his home.

John's recently televised interview with Marty Wilde, recorded live at the St Albans Arena, was watched by nearly 70,000 on the Talking Pictures channel. It is likely to be repeated soon.

John's latest book, More Wight Connections, is proving his fastest-selling book.

It includes 100 chapters on Island people, and 63 photos of past Island groups and entertainers, which are also proving popular.

John will be signing copies at several locations before Christmas, and autographed copies are available at the County Press office in Pyle Street, Newport.
