ROYAL Navy warship the HMS Prince of Wales arrived off the Isle of Wight coast yesterday (Thursday), heading to Portsmouth.

A notice has been issued, warning flight restrictions will be in place over the Solent tomorrow (Saturday).

The restrictions will include drones as well as planes.

The aircraft carrier, the sister ship of HMS Queen Elizabeth, has been described by the navy as 'one of the most powerful surface warships ever constructed in the UK.'

Its flight deck is 70 metres wide and 280 metres long — enough space for three football pitches — and it has a crew of around 700, increasing to around 1,600 with aircraft onboard.

UPDATE 4.45pm: The HMS Prince of Wales is expected to arrive at Portsmouth Harbour around lunchtime tomorrow (Saturday). Wightlink said there could be service delays as the harbour will be closed to other shipping for a short time.
