EMERGENCY services have rushed to a street in Ryde after two vehicles collided this morning (Thursday).

Police, paramedics and crews from the fire service were called to a two vehicle crash on the junction of High Park Road and Great Preston Road.

Great Preston Road has been closed in both directions as a result of the incident.

A spokesperson for the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service said: "We were called to a two car collision on Great Preston Road, on its junction with High Park Road at 11.24am.

"We sent an appliance from Ryde and another from Newport who are checking to see if anyone is trapped.

"Isle of Wight Police and ambulance crews are also on the scene."

UPDATE: The fire service has confirmed that one person was extracted from a car by firefighters.

A spokesperson for the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service said: "One elderly male was extracted from his car after crews were forced to cut the roof off.

"The male was handed over to paramedics and conveyed to hospital.

"Great Preston Road is now clear and we left the scene 12.43."
