FIRE crews were called to St Mary's Hospital this morning (Thursday) in response to a fire alarm.

Crews from Ryde, Cowes and Newport went to the hospitalin Newport, at 7.55am but quickly discovered it was a false alarm.

A spokesperson for the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service said: "When the Newport crew arrived they quickly discovered that it was a false alarm and called the crews from Ryde and Cowes off.

"The alarm turned out to have been caused by some burnt toast and there was no fire. The stop message was sent at 8.09am."
