COASTGUARDS attended a 'man overboard' call at Cowes Harbour today (Tuesday).

A man overboard beacon — essentially a tracking device — was activated shortly after 10am, sparking fears someone had fallen in the water.

The Ventnor Coastguard Rescue Team was called to the scene, at Shepards Wharf Marina, and spent almost three hours searching the area.

Nothing was found.

A UK Coastguard spokesperson said: "The team from Ventnor was sent to investigate, attending the scene at approximately 10.30am and stepping down at 1.15pm. The beacon was likely to be on land."

The team at the marina is continuing an investigation.
