TEN senior students from Theatretrain Isle of Wight travelled to New York with other Theatretrain centres from across the UK last month.

The students were treated to a fun packed few days in the Big Apple — visiting landmarks, watching shows and attending workshops — before entertaining hundreds of tourists at the Empire State Building.

As part of the trip the group attended two workshops on Broadway, working with cast members from Beetlejuice, including singing coaches who prepared them for their performance at the Empire State Building later in the week.

All pupils were part of a 30-minute set, with Isle of Wight students Millie Lake and Sophia Houghton performing solo, and Ben Thompson commended by the course director for his dancing talents.

An Empire State event organiser said: “We see many performers at this venue, but this was the best display by a young cast we have had the pleasure of witnessing.”

Julie Caudle, centre director of Theatretrain Isle of Wight, said: “I was delighted to accompany them on this trip that was truly an experience of a lifetime.

"Here at Theatretrain we are a performance company providing singing, dance and drama classes for four to 18-year olds.

“I am incredibly proud of all our students’ talents. We aim to provide a variety of experiences and workshops for our youngsters so they can shine like the stars that they are.”

Tickets are already available for the group’s forthcoming performance of Cinderella at Medina Theatre.
