PLANS to renovate the toilet block at Sandown seafront, opposite the pier, have been announced by the Isle of Wight Council.

The authority said the new-look facility could include a new food and drink outlet, separate public toilets and redesigned outdoor areas.

Although the toilets were temporarily reopened this summer, the council said the age of the building meant something new was needed to retain the facility in the long term.

A drop-in exhibition will be held at the Broadway Centre, Sandown, on Thursday, between 6pm and 8pm, where members of the public can meet the project team and learn more about the plans.

Assistant director of regeneration Paul Thomas said: “Given the prominence of the site, there is a great opportunity to replace the current property with a contemporary design that will help regenerate this area.

“We know that this is a particularly well-used and important part of the seaside offering at Sandown, and we are keen to make this location much more attractive to locals and tourists alike.”

The plans will form part of the council's regeneration strategy.
