A TEAM of dedicated walkers have completed a trip that saw them circumnavigate the coastline of the Island in aid of charity.

Eric Gussin, Sarah Keefe and Damien Keefe, walked the length of the Isle of Wight coast to raise £850 for Remap, a charity that engineers equipment to make life easier for the disabled.

The trio began their walk in Cowes, heading west before ending up in East Cowes after five days.

Eric Gussin, chairman of the Isle of Wight branch of Remap, said: "The first part of the walk was actually inland through some lovely wooded valleys although with all the recent rain much of our time was spent looking down at the muddy path and trying to avoid slipping.

"We only lost one to the mud on this first day, but no damage done other than to pride.

"From Yarmouth the second leg took us round past the Needles, across Tennyson Down, finishing up at Brighstone.

"Glorious sunny weather showed off the splendour of this southern part of the walk magnificently.

"Day three saw the return of more inclement weather so back on with the waterproofs before setting off again from Brighstone, aiming for Ventnor.

"A day of sunshine and showers saw us alternating between taking waterproofs off in the sunshine and then stopping a little later only to put them back on again as the rain returned.

"Day four and oh how black the sky looked from the start. This was a day of the heaviest rains of the walk.

"Starting where we finished the day before, we set off aiming to finish at St Helens.

"The final day saw another mixed bag of weather with sunshine and heavy showers as we made our way through Ryde to East Cowes."
