AN ISLAND school has celebrated imagination and creativity by spending a day crafting creations out of donated cardboard.

Lanesend Primary School, in Cowes, took in mounds of cardboard in preparation for its annual event dubbed the 'Cardboard Challenge.'

The event was inspired by a short documentary film, Caine's Arcade, in which a child built his own arcade out of cardboard in his dad's garage.

The day saw cardboard converted into tanks, robots cars and bird feeders.

Amber Maidment, of Lanesend Primary, said: "Every year at Lanesend, our children take part in the cardboard challenge.

"We collect lots of cardboard, much of it donated from parents and staff.

"This year was no exception as mountains of cardboard were transformed into amazing creations.

"The children’s imaginations did not disappoint as they taped, glued and cut to make a range of objects big and small.

"There have been cars, bird feeders, buses, houses, rockets, masks, people, towers and castles just to name a few.

"The children absolutely loved it from designing and making. I’m sure many of our families will have cardboard creations dotted around the house for weeks."
