COWES Town Council has unveiled a new mural in the town centre, designed by local artists and a primary school.

The new design along a wall in The Cut, was designed by Chris and Maddy Dobson who designed the artwork alongside students from Cowes Primary School.

The mural was largely completed with the assistance of two students from Carisbrooke College, one from Ryde Academy and one from the Island Learning Centre.

Amey, the Island’s waste contractor, and ferry operator Red Funnel also provided staff to assist with the painting of the new design.

The artwork was inspired by a poem written by Rosie Lockyer and painted by Gillian Mulcahy and Samantha Kenyon.

The official unveiling of the new mural was held on Tuesday, October 29 at the cut and was attended by the Mayor of Cowes, Lora Peacey-Wilcox, as well as town councillors Paul Fuller and Paul Taylor.

Cllr Lora Peacey Wilcox, Mayor of Cowes, said: “My sincere thanks and gratitude goes to each person who helped to create a full picture of Cowes from the Hammerhead Crane to the Squadron.

"A truly ‘Cowes’ team effort. Please take time to go and have a good look.”
