HOVERTRAVEL, Wightlink, Southern Vectis and South West Trains are offering free travel to all veterans on Sunday (November 10), so brave individuals who served can attend Remembrance Day services on either side of the Solent.

Loretta Lale, head of commercial at Hovertravel, explained: “We support our past and current military service personnel with discounts, and we are proud to be an employer of ex-forces staff as well as a stepping stone for younger team members to go into the military.

"We recognise the significant sacrifice made by veterans, and to show our thanks and respect on this special day, we are offering free travel.”

For Hovertravel, veterans simply need to show their Veterans Outreach ID card at the terminals on Sunday.

If a person is in uniform, wearing medals or has a serving military ID, they will also be provided free travel.

UPDATE: The Isle of Wight Council have announced today (Thursday) the Floating Bridge will also offer free travel for veterans, either as foot passengers or in their vehicles.

Cabinet member for infrastructure and transport, Councillor Ian Ward, a veteran himself, said “Our veterans and Armed Forces have given so much that we may live in an open and free society.

“We do what we can to support our community and assist those that have made a significant contribution. I for one am honoured to have served, and delighted that we can support those who helped protect us, on this national day of reflection and remembrance.”
