CHARTER House opened its doors to the new NOMAD on Friday for an evening of sensory stimulation.

Guests at the soft launch included Isle of Wight Festival organiser John Giddings and three-piece blues rockers Bang Bang Romeo, who performed later that night at nearby Strings Bar and Venue.

Mr Giddings said: “NOMAD have worked with us at the Isle of Wight Festival for a few years now, providing delicious food in our exclusive Blackstar Hospitality area.

"It is great to see them opening in the centre of Newport. I was impressed by the food, service, décor and general vibe and will be highly recommending it to both locals and visitors.”

Guests were provided with an assortment of fare — marinated yakitori salmon skewers, crispy duck bao buns, and har gau prawn dim sum among the cuisine.

A young, seasoned team ably augmented the sustenance and striking ambience during a night when emphasis was placed on invigorating the senses through a combination of the food, lighting, incense, and unobtrusive music.

Matthew Parker, owner of Charter House, said: “The night went really smoothly, and the feedback was very positive. Hopefully it sent ripples on to the pond.

“The aim is to provide a refined, tuned character that offers an alternative for people wanting a night out in Newport — you don’t have to come here to eat, we have a license until 2am and want to create a space where people can come to unwind.

“Guests can also enjoy the ambience after their meal. Charter House boasts six beautiful en suite bedrooms as well, which we believe NOMAD will compliment.”

Plans are afoot to introduce vegan boxes for lunchtime business clientele seeking something nutritious on the move.

The boxes will offer a range of fresh options such quinoa, Middle Eastern vegetables and a choice of proteins.

NOMAD owner, Ryan Burr, said: “Matt and I bring different things to the table, combining our strengths to elevate each other in producing a rounded experience for our customers.

“NOMAD was great before, but in this venue with a bit more strategy and finesse we hope to flourish.

"In the summer we are excited at the prospect of having 80 covers out front.

“We are endeavouring to bring something unique to the local scene.”

Matthew and Ryan have announced that Archie from the Cuban Brothers will DJ at the venue during the Christmas season.

NOMAD’s public launch will take place on Friday evening.
