THE seventh annual 'Your Future' Career, Education and Jobs Fair, commissioned by the Isle of Wight Council, took place last Wednesday, with record numbers attending.

Around 730 people visited the Isle of Wight College in Newport during the main session of the fair, which took place between 11.15am and 3pm.

A total of 76 exhibitors were present, offering information, support and news of job vacancies.

Among these were the Isle of Wight NHS Trust, Teemill, GKN, Hampshire Constabulary BAE Systems and a host of local training providers.

Andy Tickner, head of service for Island Futures said: “This year saw a 30 per cent increase from 2018 in terms of the number of people who attended the event.

"It was organised by the Isle of Wight Council to give an annual focus to careers, education and employment opportunities on the Island.

“We were delighted to see so many young people and parents attending to find out about their education and training options after leaving school or college, including higher education.

“We would like to pass on our thanks to the 76 employers and education providers who supported the event with exhibition stands and information — feedback has been extremely positive.”

Several universities were also represented, including Southampton, Bournemouth, Southampton Solent, Winchester and Chichester.

The fair was held in partnership with the Isle of Wight College, the County Press, Apprenticeship Support Network and Jobcentre Plus.
