COMIC book buffs were treated to a day of free literature and Halloween fun at Heroes comic book store in Scarrots Lane, Newport.

Halloween ComicFest hit the Isle of Wight on Saturday, October 26.

The popular shop began the day with more than 1,000 animated stories ready for distribution, and around 100 different titles on offer.

Reflecting on a day that brought fans flooding into through the doors, manager Rob Mead said: "We love hosting free comic book days, being fans of comics ourselves we really look forward to putting on these events.

“They are a great way for people to try a comic they wouldn't normally read, without needing to spend the money to find out if it’s something they’ll enjoy.

"Comics are for every age group from the very young through to mature titles. There is literally something for everyone.”

The next Free Comic Book Day takes place in May next year, with Heroes already preparing for the occasion.

In addition, company insiders have revealed that an exciting announcement will be made before that date, with the secret closely guarded to tantalise fans of the industry.

Rob said: “It’s true we have something up our sleeves we’re looking forward to sharing with the Island, and we believe it will be really exciting for people who enjoy this brand of entertainment.

“As for the future of comics, it's all looking pretty good — what was geeky 20 years ago is now mainstream.

"Movies and television shows based on comics are not going to be stopping anytime soon.”
