A FRIEND of Briddlesford car crash survivor Becky Wall has raised vital funds towards her recovery by walking around the coast of the Isle of Wight — barefoot.

Matt Hannah, from Ventnor, completed the epic 67-mile coastal path trek earlier this month, over four days.

Road crash survivor Becky, who was left fighting for her life after being airlifted from a crash on Briddlesford Road, Wootton, in June, left the Island recently to begin the next stage of her recovery at a specialist neurological rehabilitation centre.

Matt, who smashed his £1,000 target, said: “I would like to thank everyone who has contributed to the cause, and those who helped to keep me going at the more difficult times.

“I have known Becky for a long time, so this walk was something that I was determined to finish — despite my feet not always agreeing.

“In terms of support, the response has been overwhelming, with Becky’s circumstances striking a chord with people from all walks of life, all of the money raised will be going towards her ongoing recovery.

“Thank you so much to everyone who has supported and donated so far. Your kindness has been humbling. It’s still possible to donate if you’d like to help.”

A flood of support for Matt has poured in on social media.

Well-wisher and friend of Matt, Villy Tichkova, was one of many to post messages of support.

She said: “How would you know the earth is there if you never take your shoes off? Walking barefoot is such a magical way to feel the earth, I can’t think of a better way to help a friend.”
