AN ISLE of Wight sailing club has made a £3,000 donation to Bembridge Village Hall.

Jos Coad, commodore of Bembridge Sailing Club, together with rear-commodore house, Dorian Campbell, and club secretary, Gemma Wall, presented a cheque for £3,070 to Dennis Chubb and Denise Grannum of Bembridge Village Hall.

The club held a charity drinks party in early August, with all the proceeds going to the cause.

"The club selects a local charity each year for whom we raise funds at a drinks party in August when the club is at its busiest," said Jos.

"We are delighted to have raised so much money from our members for this worthy cause.

"Last year, the Bembridge Community Library was our charity. We always want to support a local charity in our village as we feel very much a part of the Bembridge community."

Dennis said: "With this money, we are going to buy 150 new chairs for the various events and local activities we hold here, and any left over will go towards redecorating the hall itself.

"This is a wonderful donation, and we are grateful to the members of the sailing club for their generous support."
