TWO former Ventnor cricketers have been selected for the new, eagerly anticipated The Hundred competition.

Former England player, Danny Briggs, renowned for his slow left-arm darts, has been selected for Welsh Fire, while hard-hitting batsman, Adam Hose, has been selected for Birmingham Phoenix.

Briggs also plays for Sussex in the 4-day and 1-day competitions.

The first draft took place on Sunday, in which eight new city-based teams each selected a squad of 15 players.

The white-ball competition will be 100 balls per innings, with a change of ends after 10 balls, kick-starting on July 17, 2020, and running over a five-week period.

Teams will play each other once, with the exception of their paired rivals, whom they meet twice, both home and away.

There will be 32 league matches in total, with the top three finishers competing in the finals day.

The top team will automatically reach the final, with the team in second place facing off against the team in third for a spot in the final.
