From Georgina Broadhead, Newport:

We ARE just back from a bracing walk in Brook and Compton Bays.

As usual, it was enjoyable, but we were shocked by the sheer quantity and variety of plastic blown up  by recent storms. We could not recall it ever having been so bad.

We always take a carrier bag to collect rubbish, and it was soon chock-a-block.  We also collected several large plastic containers.

Other walkers praised us but it would be so much better if every time anyone visited the beach they also took a bag to collect this curse of man-made plastic detritus.  If we all took even a few pieces of plastic home with us, what a difference we could all make.

It would also be excellent PR for Biffa or for Amey, if they were to sponsor a large bin at the car park, which would be encouragement for people to collect rubbish without the need to take it home.
