SOCIALLY isolated older people will enjoy a Christmas lunch with all the trimmings at Barton Manor.

The event, on December 18, is being provided by Age UK IW, in partnership with Newport-based business Rouse Limited, and hosted by the owners of the East Cowes private estate.

The aim is to help alleviate social isolation this Christmas by providing a traditional Christmas lunch for those who might otherwise spend the festive season alone.

The inaugural event will provide guests with lunch, entertainment and a small gift.

Local businesses, volunteer groups, schools and colleges are invited to support the event with their time, talent and facilities.

It already has the support of Waitrose, the Isle of Wight College catering and hospitality students, Queensgate Primary School, and the Gurnard Knit and Natter group.

As social isolation doesn’t just affect older members of the community, the long-term aim is to develop the project into an annual event that ultimately reaches out to anyone who is alone.

Any individuals, businesses or community groups who can offer support should contact Alexandra Pugh at Rouse Limited at alexandra.pugh@rouseltd.co.uk
