AN ISLE of Wight primary school has received a new playhouse, courtesy of various donations and help from a local estate agent.

Thanks to the Brighstone School Association, the new structure at Brighstone Primary was a surprise to pupils returning from their summer holidays.

Proposals to begin building had been discussed since the previous house was knocked down two years ago to allow for much needed space as the school expanded.

Through fundraising by the BSA and a donation from Hose Rhodes Dickson, a local carpenter was able to complete the project in time for the new school year.

Teresa Fox, headteacher, said: “We are extremely pleased to present the pupils with their new playhouse.

“We will shortly be having the whole garden landscaped too, and I know the children can’t wait to start playing there.

"We are very grateful to the parents and students who have been busy behind the scenes fundraising, and to Hose Rhodes Dickson for their generous donation.”

Tom Buchanan, manager of the Newport branch of Hose Rhodes Dickson, said: “We are happy to support Brighstone Primary and get involved in such a fun project for the local community.

“Of all the houses we are involved in, this has certainly been the most enjoyable.”
