BOB Seely has asked for reassurances the Isle of Wight's ferry companies are ready for winter — after maintenance and operational issues last year, coupled with bad weather, caused delays and cancellations.

The MP has written to Red Funnel, Wightlink and Hovertravel to ask about their winter resilience plans.

Mr Seely said he had sought reassurance that preparations were being undertaken to ensure operational problems would not repeat themselves, and any delays would be limited only by unavoidable and adverse weather.

"I want to make sure the firms are confident they will be able to provide a reliable service through winter," he said.

The MP said he would publish replies when he received them.
