The family of a teenager airlifted to hospital following a horror car crash in Freshwater has paid tribute to the emergency services.

The crash happened yesterday at Afton Road, Freshwater.

The father of 17-year-old Jos, Calvin, wanted to pass on his thanks and praise to all those involved in the incident including Freshwater Fire Station, the Isle of Wight Fire Service, the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service, the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance, staff at St Mary’s Hospital and staff at Southampton General's Specialist Trauma Unit.

Calvin said: “Our son Jos is three weeks off his 18th birthday.

"Thank you all for your professionalism last night. I truly thought our son was dead when we first arrived.

"Jos was airlifted to Southampton this morning by the wonderful air ambulance.

"They are spending sometime getting him stable as he has broken both femurs and one is open.

"Internally all checks are clear.

"My wife and I are in absolute bits as he is a lovely nipper who wouldn’t hurt anyone.

"Thank you again to you and all of your colleagues.”

The above information and comments were released with Calvin and his wife Sarah’s approval.

A female casualty was also taken to St Mary's Hospital.

UPDATE 7.30am Monday:

Joanna, mother to 17-year-old Bryony, the passenger in the car on Saturday night, wanted to send her thanks and praise to all the emergency services that helped her daughter.

She said: “Can I just express my gratitude as the mother of the female passenger. Amazing, every single one of you! Worst moment of my life ever and you guys were so on the money. Handled the situation and an hysterical me calmly. I can’t thank you enough.

“Bryony is doing a lot better. She’s had a rough day yesterday, she has a cannula in and is on a drip. She has three minor fractures but that’s all hopefully. She’s black and blue all over but we were worried about internal bleeding but she appears to be ok in that respect. Once again I can not thank you all enough.”
