PRIME Minister Boris Johnson praised the work of Isle of Wight shipbuilders at the Conservative conference this morning (Wednesday).

Speaking to the party, Mr Johnson heaped praise on Wight Shipyard saying: "We already have some astonishing exports.

"Just in the last few months I have seen an Isle of Wight shipbuilder that exports vast leisure catamarans to Mexico."

Back in June, the then party leader candidate spoke to several members of the 150-strong workforce at Wight Shipyard and toured the premises, climbing aboard a RIB being built for the Royal Yacht Squadron, and exploring the passenger ferries that are being exported to Mexico.

The comment comes after Boris Johnson assured Islanders the Isle of Wight will receive a special deal during House of Commons questions on September 25.
