THE Memorial Hall in Freshwater will welcome back the Castalian String Quartet and clarinet artistry of Matthew Hunt on October 12.

Formed in 2011, the quartet previously visited in November 2017, and were met by more than 200 attendees.

Named after the Castalian Spring in Delphi and now enjoying an international career, the quartet was the recipient of the inaugural Merito String Quartet Award and Valentin Erben Prize and a Borletti-Buitoni Trust Fellowship Award in 2018.

Matthew Hunt is one of Britain’s leading clarinettists, renowned for the vocal quality of his playing and his ability to communicate with audiences.

He holds the position of solo clarinettist with the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen and is a member of the Sheffield-based chamber group Ensemble 360.

They will play Schumann’s String Quartet no.2 in F Major, Penderecki’s Quartet for Clarinet and String Trio, and end with Brahms’ haunting Clarinet Quintet in B Minor.

The evening starts at 7pm.

Season tickets for all seven remaining concerts can be obtained via westwightarts.co.uk or by phoning Totland Parish Office on 756028.
