A GROUP of tornado and storm researchers have released a warning for the Isle of Wight and the South of England.

TORRO, The Tornado and Storm Research Organisation has warned that the Island could see wind high speeds as Hurricane Lorenzo heads towards the British Isles.

The group has warned that 'isolated, brief tornadoes' could develop across the south of the UK, including the Island.

A spokesperson for TORRO warned: "An upper trough will continue to move south eastwards over the southern half of the UK this afternoon.

"Showers and thunderstorms have developed in a region of rather slack flow, meaning they will be rather disorganised.

"The fairly moist airmass and slow storm motion will also lead to the risk of local flash flooding."
