VENTNOR Botanic Garden will host an exhibition of original paintings and limited edition prints by Bembridge artist, Charlotte Hodge Thomas, from Monday.

Having exhibited her solo work at Quarr Abbey, Isle of Wight Open Studios, and the annual National Acrylic Painters’ Association Summer Exhibition, Indian Summer Glow will be the first solo showcase Charlotte has presented at the garden's gallery.

She said: “I’m very excited to try this new venue, it is in such a beautiful location, right by the entrance to the grounds, the visitor centre, shop, cafe and restaurant.

“Despite being a Bembridge girl through and through, I also have strong connections with Ventnor — my husband is a Ventnor man — and it was always our family outing destination of choice when I was a child.

“My parents used to take us to Ventnor park, the seafront and the botanic gardens 40 years ago. I remember thinking the sun always shone there and it always seemed hot.

“That coupled with the fact my paintings are often described as ‘sunny’ made me think it appropriate to call my exhibition here Indian Summer Glow.”

The exhibition will feature this season’s original paintings as well as Charlotte’s full collection of affordable, limited edition prints.

Some of the original paintings and prints will include local scenes such as Ventnor Bay and Ventnor Bandstand, while the artist is currently working on a new, large canvas painting of a stunning sunset over Steephill Cove, which she hopes to have completed in time for the show.

The exhibition runs until Sunday, October 6.
