FIRE services were called to a garden fire in Wroxall this afternoon (Thursday) after an area of land caught alight.

Two fire engines from Ventnor Fire Station and Shanklin Fire Station were called to the blaze on St Martins Road at 2.17pm.

A spokesperson for the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service said: "We were called to a blaze that had grown to engulf an area approximately 8x8m.

"We used two hose reel jets and one main jet to tackle the fire as well as four sets of breathing apparatus.

"The fire was just a bit of grass, and was dealt with by 2.52."
