A PLAYGROUND in Newport has had a new lease of life after it was redesigned and redeveloped.

The park on Nelson Road saw its play area improved thanks to £42,000 of funding from Sovereign Housing Association and the dedication of Nelson Road Park Community Project, a newly-formed local residents’ group.

The play area is equipped with brightly-coloured toddler and junior play equipment, inclusive swings and roundabout and play panels.

An open day saw entertainment from the Enchanted Isle party company.

Project chair Sue Pearce said: “The open day was amazing, with smiling faces and happy kids.

"Parents had nothing but good comments about the park and the committee.

"We received personal thanks from so many people which makes all our hard work worthwhile.”

Becky Haydock, Sovereign’s community development officer, said: “It was lovely to see everyone having a great time enjoying the new facilities.

"The committee has worked hard to make their vision a reality, by working together, and Sovereign has made a positive impact in the Nelson Road community.”
