A MAN from Sandown has been charged following an incident that saw armed police officers descend on Ryde yesterday afternoon (Tuesday).

Anthony Robert Carr, 48, of Parsonage Road, Sandown, has been charged with possession of a Class B drug, and possession of an offensive weapon in a public place ­— namely two extendable batons and a knuckle duster.

Mr Carr was remanded in custody, and is due to appear at the Isle of Wight Magistrates' Court today (Wednesday).

UPDATE: At a hearing at the Isle of Wight Magistrates' Court, the case was adjourned until October 11 at the Isle of Wight Crown Court.
