FIRE crews were called to Sandown last night as two cars were burning.

At around 2am in the early hours of this (Saturday) morning, a team from Sandown Fire Station responded to the blaze on Fort Street.

A spokesperson for the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service said: "We were called to Fort Street in Sandown, where two cars were engulfed in flames.

"We used two sets of breathing equipment and two hose reels in order to extinguish the fire.

"The fire was put out and we have now handed the matter over to the police."
