THE winners of this year's Sandown in Bloom competition have been announced.

Ann White, of Fitzroy Street, said she was ‘chuffed to bits’ to have been jointly awarded the best large front garden trophy with Delia Bridger, of Beachfield Road.

Albert Buckingham, of Avenue Road, won the award for best small front garden.

The competition was reintroduced this year by the Sandown Community Association, and was open to all residents and organisations in the electoral boundary of Sandown Town Council.

Association chair Alan Jones said the standard of entries was very high, and the judges had a very difficult task deciding the winners.

The awards were presented at a ceremony held at The Tap, Sandown, earlier this month.

He said: "Sandown Community Association would like to thank all the entrants, judges and trophy sponsors for their support, and we are looking forward to an even bigger and better competition next year."
