CALLING all cyclists — Isle of Wight Bike Day is coming soon.

The inaugural event will be held at Chessell Pottery Cafe on Saturday, August 31.

Organiser Mark Giddens took up the challenge thanks to an idea from Wightlink's Wight Mountain Cycle Team, when he was asked to host the last event in their time trial series, with after-party and prizegiving.

He developed the idea to open the day up to other cyclists and cycling clubs, and the event has ballooned into a cycle spectacular.

There will be three group rides, including a 60km road ride starting at 9.30am accompanied by The West Wight Wheelers, a 40km road ride starting at 10.30am accompanied by IW Cycling, and a 30km off-road ride starting at 10am, accompanied by The Sunday Social.

The 30km ride will also have a short uphill time trial competition, hosted by Wight Cycle Hire.

All events are free but the West Wight Sports and Community Centre is the nominated charity for the event, and there will be a collection on the day.

The centre will bring its spinzone bikes and will run a timed competition.

Three IW bike shops will display their latest models — Wight Mountain, TAV Cycles and Adrian's Bike Shop.

There will also be displays from Isle Access, Cowes Cycling, Cyclewight, IW Council, Wight Cycle Hire and more.
