A NEW home-delivery doughnut business is set to open on the Isle of Wight.

Yass Donuts, the brainchild of Lucy Gutteridge and Calvin Vercoe, is due to open next month.

It will deliver delicious artisan doughnuts to customer's doors, Island-wide, with flavours including blueberry, rhubarb and custard, Oreo-eo and salted caramel and pretzel.

Chef Calvin specialises in Moroccan and Thai street food, and is used to working in a kitchen.

For Lucy though, the new business marks a big career change.

Several years ago, while working at a bank in London, Lucy organised a cupcake sale for Children in Need that raised more than £1,000. It inspired her to go on and create Yass Donuts.

She said: "I discovered the power of social media and the ability to create a buzz."

She has already created a buzz with Yass Donuts — its Facebook page amassed almost a thousand likes in fewer than three weeks, and numerous Islanders have posted enthusiastic comments.

Calvin, who has also worked in catering at French ski resorts, said he was excited to apply his culinary experience to a new role.

Their long-term goal is to open a cafe, once they have established the delivery service.

The delivery service will be launched in late September. At first, they will make a batch of doughnuts once a week, on either Fridays or Saturdays, to gauge demand.
