ISLAND artist Martin Jacobs has had a painting accepted to the prestigious Sunday Times Watercolour Competition.

The subject of his painting is a boat shed at Fishbourne, near where he grew up.

His father, Frank Jacobs, also a local artist, once had a wooden boat built in the boat sheds at Fishbourne, and Martin has been painting pictures of the sheds for more than forty years.

Martin works primarily in watercolour, producing works on paper, many of which have been inspired by the Isle of Wight.

He also produces etchings and works in other media, and has exhibited widely.

One of his works is in the collection of The Prince of Wales.

The Sunday Times Watercolour Competition 2019 winners are announced next week.
