WELL-KNOWN Isle of Wight charity Challenge and Adventure is to close — after 27 years.

Chair of trustees, Gill Kennett, told the County Press it was the right time to close, due to changes within education and the way charities are now funded.

Familiar fundraising face of the charity, Karen Eeles, has moved to Wight Aid after six years with Challenge and Adventure.

Mrs Kennett said: "We did 27 years and were very successful but times have changed.

"We had a long discussion and will be closing the charity.

"The Challenge Programme will continue to be provided on the Island by HTP.

"We used to work very closely with schools but education has changed, funding has changed and government policy has changed."
