POLICE officers who stopped and searched a car last night (Tuesday) discovered weapons including a knife, air gun and a crossbow.

A man and a teenager, both from Cornwall, were subsequently arrested.

They stopped the Vauxhall Vectra at Parkhurst Road, Newport, shortly after 7.30pm.

An Isle of Wight Police spokesperson said: "A number of weapons were found inside the vehicle, including a knife, a crossbow and an air gun.

"A 25-year-old man and a 17-year-old boy, both from Cornwall, were arrested on suspicion of possession of an imitation firearm, possession of an offensive weapon, possession of a controlled drug of class A and being concerned in the supply of a class A drug.

"They have been released from custody but remain under investigation."
