A MAN has been convicted of weapons offences after police found a stash of weapons including axes, knives and a crossbow in his car.

Gavin Price, 45, of Downsview, Sandown, appeared at the Isle of Wight Crown Court yesterday (Tuesday), where he was found guilty of 17 offences — including possession of an imitation firearm, possession of offensive weapons and possession of bladed articles.

In October last year, the court heard police stopped a car at Perowne Way, Sandown, which was being driven without an MOT.

Police said the driver, Price, was noticeably obstructive, and officers found out why when they searched the vehicle.

Price, who had a lock knife tucked into his belt, had a crossbow and bolts in the boot of his car.

As officers continued to search the vehicle, they found hunting knives, more lock knives, axes, and a BB gun.

As a result, he was arrested and subsequently charged with weapons offences.

Price has been remanded in custody and will be sentenced at Portsmouth Crown Court on September 27.
