THE Folly Inn has revealed why it has been closed over the past few days — it has been deep cleaned following norovirus fears.

The Whippingham pub closed its doors on Sunday, telling customers it was due to a health and safety issue.

A spokesperson for Greene King, which owns the pub, said: "We closed the pub as a precautionary measure following a suspected outbreak of norovirus in the community.

"There is no suggestion this is related to our kitchen and food preparation standards, however the safety of our customers is a top priority so we have organised a professional treatment of the entire site."

The Folly reopened for drinks yesterday (Tuesday) evening and normal service will resume from lunchtime today.
