CARNIVAL queens from all over the Island joined in the fun at the West Wight parade and picnic.

A variety of floats with different themes from Sandown, Cowes, Ryde and Ventnor all took part in the parade through Freshwater to Colwell Common where there was a family picnic.

The floats were led through the village by members of Freshwater Fire Brigade with their engines flashing lights and blaring sirens.

The event was organised by Freshwater and Totland Parish Councils.

Totland clerk, Helen Gibbs, said: "The whole afternoon went off really well. When the floats arrived at the Common we did our judging and awarded Ventnor first prize because we thought their idea of carnival queens through the ages was a bit different.

"Lots of families brought picnics and the FAT Samba Band entertained everyone.

"There was also a belly dancing display led by Dawn Everest in which people got up to give it a go and the Freshwater Ukulele Band also played.

"The star of the afternoon was Huxley the Magican who held the children spellbound with his tricks.

"It was great fun and good to see families chilling out and playing together."
