A TEENAGER has been treated at Southampton General Hospital after suffering serious head injuries in an assault on Arctic Road, Cowes, last night.

It is understood a golf club, or clubs, may have been used — police have confirmed. 

An IW Police spokesperson said: "We’re investigating after two teenagers were assaulted during an incident on August 6.

"Police were called shortly after 9pm with reports of a public order incident involving a group of people in the street.

"During the incident, two 15-year-old boys from Newport were assaulted.

"One of the boys sustained minor injuries, and the other sustained serious injuries which have required treatment at Southampton General Hospital.

"A 15-year-old boy from Cowes has been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm and remains in custody at this time."

Detective Inspector Ron Lock said: “At this time we believe that all those involved in the incident last night are known to each other.

“Our enquiries to establish the circumstances remain ongoing and officers will be in the area speaking to local people.
