A FAMILY boat trip was brought to an abrupt end yesterday (Sunday) when their boat stalled in the Solent and they had to be rescued by the Cowes lifeboat team.

The family of five was left stranded in the mouth of the Beaulieu River after suffering an engine failure, leaving the two adults and three children awaiting rescue.

A spokesperson for Cowes RNLI said: "The lifeboat crossed the Solent to find that the motorboat had been saved from going aground by the independent Solent Rescue lifeboat.

"Cowes lifeboat then towed the motorboat back to Bucklers Hard. It returned to station just after 4pm."
