VENTNOR Coastguard, alongside the police, and explosive ordnance disposal technicians were called to Shanklin this afternoon.

At around 3pm, Ventnor Coastguard Rescue Team was tasked to find unexploded ordnance reported by a member of the public.

Upon discovery, Ventnor Coastguard Rescue Team, together with the police, cordoned off the area, and issued a broadcast to stop any nearby vessels from coming close.

Explosive ordnance disposal technicians subsequently exploded the ordnance in the sea, in a controlled manner.

Ventnor Coastguard Rescue Team returned to station at 5pm.
