AROUND 300 people attended a special picnic for the Shalfleet and Yarmouth Federation Primary Schools.

The event was celebrated by family, friends and supporters of the schools, in the gardens of The Towers, Yarmouth.

The theme of the picnic was yellow, the school colours, and Yarmouth Carnival Committee supplied some of the ducks used in the Easter duck race for a Catch a Duck game.

There were various competitions including best dressed teddy, best jam jar arrangement of yellow flowers, best picture of yellow flowers, best six yellow cupcakes and name the duck.

Best picture of yellow flowers was judged by members of Yarmouth’s retained fire officers.

The artwork first prize will be framed and displayed by West Wight Framing, while Blossoms of Yarmouth offered a special flower arrangement as prize for best family cake.

A Wight Nature Fund display showed some of the flowers, birds and insects living in the nearby Mill Copse.

The yellow submarine Eremue made its first appearance since leaving the River Yar boatyard.

Thanks went to Towers owner John Caulcutt for hosting the event.
