THE traditional Calbourne fete was hailed as 'one of the best ever' after more than £3,000 was raised to help with the running of the village's All Saints Church.

Organiser Angie Clayton said: "It was a fabulous day and we had such great feedback.

"It was a lot of money to raise when you think there was free entry and free parking, so none of this could be possible without the help of the local community, for which we are extremely grateful.

"The weather was kind to us with plenty of sun and it made for one of the best ever fetes. The teas and coffee stall has never been so busy."

The fete, at Westover House, was opened by the Isle of Wight Highland Pipes and Drums Band.

The celebrations continued with a mixture of entertainment in the arena which included an Oompah Band, belly dancer, fun dog show, children's games and tug-of-war which was won by the girls.

As well as a variety of stalls there was a barbecue, bar and refreshments.
