POET PW Gates had two sell-out shows at Ventnor Fringe — but took her audience outside the venue so as not to get claustrophobic.

The poet, aka Megan Turner, is autistic and talks freely about her condition within her work.

She checked out the Book Bus venue before the shows and decided it was too small for the crowd of 20 — so moved to St Catherine's Church churchyard instead.

Her poetry was so moving, she had a mother-and-daughter team come up afterwards to say how their own experiences mirrored hers.

Megan, 21, of Cowes, hopes to raise awareness of autism by putting on a mini-saga about living with it, and the misconceptions around it.

She said: "I will keep writing and performing, breaking the stigma about autism."

James Leavey, a fan of her work, said: "She has a strong fearless unique voice and speaks for autistic people like herself. I think she's remarkable."
