THE community came out in force to support All Saints Primary School, Freshwater, at its summer fete to raise more than £800 towards a special Christmas event.

The school is facing closure next April and, if plans go ahead, will move to Yarmouth Primary School, before relocating to a refurbished All Saints site in 2021.

Headteacher Nicki Mobley said: "I was delighted to see so many of our local families enjoying the first day of the holidays by joining us for a traditional school fete on our fantastic field.

"We cannot run events such as these without the support of our parents, governors and the wider community and I am so pleased we raised more than £800, which will go towards a special event for the children at Christmas.

"Thank you to everyone who worked together to make this such a success."

The fete was opened by Peter Kingston, Deputy Lieutenant of the IW, and the youngest and oldest children in the school, Caisey Woolnough and Eleanor Crosswell.

Attractions included Huxley the Magician, Central Discos, St John Ambulance, a children's brass band, Freshwater and Totland Archive Group and stalls run by staff and parents.

One of the most popular proved to be a produce stall, featuring fruit and vegetables grown by children in an after-school club, which raised more than £100 in donations.
