LAST Saturday (July 20) saw the final youth championships of the beach soccer season held at Appley.

The Under 9s and Under 10s categories competed, and the new more inclusive format meant it was one of the sport's busiest days of the year on the Island.

There were more medals and prizes up for grabs than ever before, so it was hotly contested.

The Under 9s championship winners, for the second year running, were Sandown Yellows. Runners up were Gurnard Lions.

There were also prizes for Brading and travelling Henley in the medal competition, and Gurnard Tigers topped the trophy group.

In the Under 10s, Downside finished first and second, being crowned championship winners and runners up, while Gurnard Athletic topped the trophy group with Rew Valley finishing as winners of the medal category.
