ST GEORGE'S performing arts group had more than just the bare necessities when they performed their latest play.

The performing arts group — operating out of St George's School Sixth Form, Newport, with members choosing performing arts as one of their optional subjects at the start of the term — elected to perform The Jungle Book as their end of year summer play.

"We chose the Jungle Book as it's a familiar story to many of the students, and one in which a lot of people could be involved," said assistant head and director of the play, Juliet Bell.

More than 100 parents gathered at St George's school hall for the occasion, and many of the students helped prepare props and scenery for the stage.

Artist extraordinaire, India Rudd — who has completed her level two in creative craft — even helped fashion some of the scenery herself alongside Di Silvester.

"The students did an amazing job, and the parents and audience loved it, we are really proud of them," said Juliet.

Auditions were held for the main characters, including Baloo the bear to King Louie and Kaa the snake.

"It was awesome," said Sam Michie.

"I love being Balloo — The Jungle Book is one of my favourite films."

"I like the costumes, they feel like my pyjamas," said Kobe Cameron, who played Colonel Hathi.

"It's brilliant — can we do it again please?" said Emily Mounger.

St George's is already planning its next play — a pantomime of Aladdin — set to feature close to Christmas.
