POLICE are investigating a spate of daytime burglaries after thieves made off with wallets, phones and cash from homes across the Isle of Wight.

Across two days, two homes were burgled in Seaview and Nettlestone. There was a third failed burglary attempt in Bembridge.

Regarding the two homes broken into, police said the burglars made their way in through open windows and insecure doors.

An Isle of Wight police spokesperson said: "We know it is tempting to leave doors and windows unlocked and open in the summer when it’s hot, but it’s important to remember this can give burglars the perfect opportunity to enter your home.

"If you’re upstairs or out of the room, even just for a few minutes, close them and help shut burglars out.

"Of course, burglars still target homes when the doors and windows are locked."
